Stairs, tight access and transit protection

York's access conditions vary considerably across the YO postcode districts. Properties inside or close to the city walls in YO1 often sit on streets that predate modern vehicles: narrow frontages, cobbled approaches and parking restrictions that require advance planning and sometimes a permit. Period terraces in Tang Hall and Heworth (YO31) have the narrow hallways and steep stairs typical of their era.
